Cement Mortar used in Plaster

 Cement Mortar:

How to calculate Quantities of Cement mortar.

Example:

A Wall  Surface need plaster having length of 12 ft ,Height  10 ft and 1inch thick Cement mortar used with Ratio of 1:4. Calculate Quantities of Material.

DATA:

Length= 12 ft

Height= 10ft

Thickness= 1 Inch

Ratio= 1:4

Sum of Ratio= 5

Solution:

Area of Wall= 12X10= 120Sft.

Wet Volume= Area X Thickness

= 120 X 1/12= 10 Cft.

Dry Vol.= 10 X 1.27= 12.7 Cft.

Note: 1.27 is Dry Factor for Cement mortar.

Cement:Ratio of Cement/Sum of Ratio X Dry Vol.

 = 1/5 X 12.7= 0.254 /1.25= 0.2032.

Say 1/2 Bag.

Sand = Ratio of sand /Sum of Ratio X Dry Vol.

=  4/5 X 12.7 = 10.16 Cft.

So For Plastering A Wall Surface need

1/2 Bag Cement and 10.16 Cft Sand.

Important points:

1- For Measurements purpose Plaster is measured in Square Ft or Square Meter.

2- During Material Calculation we need Volume for this purpose we required Thickness of plaster.

3- We convert Wet Volume to Dry because material is available before mixing in Dry Condition So we used Dry factor 1.27 .
